About Felipe

"Beautiful mambo work. Felipe mixes genres effortlessly between funky styles, rap, salsa, timba... Berklee should be proud of the well developed artistry of Felipe."

-  Kenwood Dennard (Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock...)

Felipe is

a drummer, percussionist, film scorer, and composer proudly coming from Bogotá, Colombia, but based in Los Ángeles, CA, since September 2015. Music and art that express something beautiful, a message that matters , or just a really deep, touching groove is what he strives for.

Felipe started playing around with drums at age 11 and started to study seriously at around 14. He continued working hard with what he had in Colombia for years until he decided to aim high and audition for the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2009. Against all he expected, he was accepted, awarded a scholarship and studied Drum Set Performance/Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music for the last 5 years (2010-15).

Felipe has performed at events like the The Montréal Drum Fest (2013), the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival (2012-14), The Carnegie Hall Concert Series (2015), The NAMM show 2015-16, KoSA Drum Camp (2015), The TenDrum International Perc. Festival (Taiwan,2013), California Brazil Camp (2014), LP Promotional Videos (2014, 2015), among others.

He is now relocated to Los Ángeles, where he has become an active session drummer, performer, band leader, and freelance film composer. His Felipe Guzmán Group is about to record it's first EP scheduled for release in May 2016.

Felipe Guzman Group
Felipe Guzmán Group started in 2013 at Berklee College of Music, when Felipe was trying to find his own voice as a composer. The group just started as a way of getting some college performances, but after a couple of shows, Felipe decided to take the project more seriously. It wasn't until summer 2015 that Felipe, after being able to finish a major in Film Scoring (besides his major of Drum-Set performance), took his group to a new level, refining the arrangements, expanding the repertoire, and started planning his debut EP. Felipe Guzmán Group recorded  this EP a month ago in WellSpring Sound (Acton, Massachusetts) and it is now in post-production stages in Los Angeles, CA, where Felipe is based. It will be out on May 2016 and the Felipe Guzmán Group is getting ready for promoting it with release shows and a tentative tour.
